D.I.Y. Programs
Are you interested in having a part in the construction of your new home? Do you envision yourself looking back at the building experience and proudly saying, “I did that part with my own two hands!”? Through Platinum Development’s Do It Yourself Program, clients are afforded this opportunity.
The way it works is....You let us know what aspect of the process you want to do, and we’ll exclude that from our contract. It’s that simple! We’ll specify exactly what is excluded, and the time frame you will have to work within (because we’re working on a deadline to make sure we get you in as promised!). Although all aspects of the process are available for clients to participate in, here are the most common tasks past clients have done themselves:
- Interior Painting
- Trim Carpentry
- Hardwood Flooring
- Final House Cleaning
- Supplying the:
- Light Fixtures
- Plumbing Fixtures
- Cabinets
- Countertops
We’ve had one client who had a relative in the carpet business. Thus, they wanted to supply and install their own carpeting. To that we said, “No problem!” We’ve also had a client who wanted to contract-out the foundation, electrical work, and all earthwork themselves (basement excavation, septic system, rough and finish grading, etc.), as they had some close family friends in the business. They didn’t feel comfortable managing the entire process themselves, so they hired our company to build the house, excluding each of these tasks. To this we also said, “No problem!” If you’re looking for a builder who will put up the shell, and you finish the rest, again, no problem!
We are extremely flexible, and encourage our clients to participate in the process. Building a new home is fun and exciting, and we believe clients who want to actively participate in the process should. We also realize this is a good way for clients to save money. Putting a little sweat equity in can easily pay for some upgrades.
We’ve also had past clients who planned to do certain tasks themselves, but for one reason or another, decided not to when the time came to get started. This isn’t a problem either. We simply wrote-up a Change Order specifying the work to be done, the materials to be used, and the additional costs involved, and handled it for them. Again, we are extremely flexible and easy to work with, and can work around just about anything that arises.
If you’re considering building a new home and want to actively participate in the process, give us a call and we’ll be happy to discuss in further detail our D-I-Y Program. Because our approach isn’t like the typical builder; we don’t just build you a home, we build it with you.
